Come to our talk about Galaxy-qld at the Centre for Digital Scholarship in the UQ Library. The seminar is essentially an introduction to analysis of high throughput sequencing data using Galaxy platform. Galaxy is user-freindly web-based platform for computationally intensive data analysis. It does not require IT knowledge or programming skills. The talk might be useful for biologists not familiar with high throughout sequencing methods but interested in analysis of nextGen sequencing data.

We run RNA-Seq in Galaxy workshop at UQ on November 15-16, 2017. Registration is essential. The participants will use Galaxy-tut server.
We will do the following:
data upload by ftp
GVL Basic RNA-Seq tutorial
GVL Advanced RNA-Seq tutorial
Slides from the workshop are available as pdfs:
Introduction to NGS
RNA-Seq in Galaxy.
There will be a limited user support for Galaxy-qld during the workshop.
On November 4, 2017 we are holding a Galaxy training at UQCCR, Herston, for participants of the Practical Microbial Genomics Workshop. The training is based on Public data → assembly, annotation, MLST tutorial created by Melbourne Bioinformatics.

Are you interested in attending a Galaxy workshop at UQ? Email Igor at email@example.com. The date and place will be arranged when I get expression of interest from several persons. The proposed topic: RNA-Seq in Galaxy (analysis of differential gene expression using high throughput sequencing data). The workshop is aimed on new Galaxy users. It will cover data import, alignment of reads to a reference genome, Cuffdiff, data manipulation in Galaxy. The participants will create and use a Galaxy workflow.

The event was fully booked, and all participants turned up for the workshop. We started with an introduction talk covering some local options available to researchers, with emphasis on Galaxy platform and Galaxy-qld server. The participants had minor problem with Galaxy-tut server at the very start of the training session, but Derek managed to fix it. The server was a bit slow in response, but the session was finished on time, with ample time left for questions.
Slides from the workshop are available as a pdf file.
